Child Support
In Georgia, child support is related to custody and visitation, but is a distinct legal issue. Child support may not be withheld in order to enforce child custody, nor may child custody be withheld in order to enforce child support. Child support is based on statutory guidelines promulgated by the state legislature. Those guidelines include the income of both parties, cost of childcare to enable a party to work, health insurance premiums, extraordinary expense of the child, and shared custody arrangements, among other things. There are also numerous deviations, some specific, and some non specific. At Edward L. Hartness, P.C.., we understand the guidelines, and the many facts that can give rise to a proper deviation. We pledge to protect your rights, whether you are the parent who is paying or receiving child support. Our business background helps us understand what each parent’s true income is by factoring in fringe benefits, expense accounts, stock options, true self employment income, and other such factors.
